The Essex Provincial Deputy Grand Chaplain, W.Bro John Simons, assisted by other Provincial Officers carried out the Dedication of the Walden Lodge banner on Thursday 8th April 2004.
The ceremony took place at Saffron Walden Masonic Hall, Church Street, Saffron Walden in the presence of the Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Essex, W.Bro Peter Holland and the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Cambridgeshire, V.W. Bro Rodney Wolverson.

The banner which replaces the one that was destroyed in the Hall fire in July 1999 has taken some two years to produce. Walden Lodge had no photographs of the previous banner and had to rely on the memory of their members to draw up the design before placing the commission for it's replacement.

The first design draft was laid on down on computer. This incorporated the Walden Lodge crest, the centre piece of which was originally taken from the coat of arms of the Borough of Saffron Walden depicting the crocus within the walls of the castle.
The design then had to be approved by both Provincial and Grand Lodge
The next stage was to transfer the computer model to full size on a piece of tracing paper, all done in free hand.
The crest was so intricate that it would have to be painted in oils on the banner silk, along with a surrounding laurel wreath.

The ribbon scrolls of silk were then added to the banner and the name of the Province and the Lodge consecration date embroidered within them. The banner was finally edged with gold tassels and finished off with a gold tessellated cord
