Saffron Walden Carnival Day 7th July 2002 |
The Masonic Hall Association, as part of the Freemasonry in the Community, entered a float in the procession at the three yearly Saffron Walden Carnival Day. (The last carnival day July 10th 1999 will be remembered as the day the Saffron Walden Masonic Hall caught fire.) A vintage coach was decked out with the banners 'Saffron Walden Freemasons Supporting the Community' and Queen's Jubilee bunting. (note the route on the front of the bus) |

Octogenarian Daughter of a Walden Lodge Past Master - Visits our Open Day |
During the Open Day one of our visitors, Mrs Sylvia Carter, informed me that
her late father Hugh Burliegh was once a Master of Walden Lodge. She
had no idea when but remembers as a small child her family referring to her
father 'going through the chair', she recollects at the time visualising her
father falling through the seat of a broken chair. As part of the Exhibition for the Open Day, I had taken the very first Declaration Book, (luckily not lost in the Fire) and I went through it to try find her fathers entry. On finding him I showed her the entry. She brought the page close to her failing eyes, and said "I recognise that signature, that is my father's". I asked her if she would like a copy. A copy of the page from the book was produced, embedded into a presentation certificate, framed and presented to Mrs. Carter as a keep sake.
